  About Sam

Sam was born in Hull on the 23rd November 1989, and has been on the water all his life, when his father (Duncan Willis) had a speed boat, then when Sam was 10 his father had a change in mind and decided to move onto sailing, and did a RYA Day Skipper course, with Mark Peacock (RYA examiner and instructor ) and on one occasion Sam was invited along to go sailing on the River Humber, and then began to crew for him racing most weekends.

Sam Willis 11

After several years crewing for Mark Peacock in the Humber Estuary and the East Coast of England gaining experience in racing and all other aspect of sailing, Sam decided to get a small sail boat (Flying Fifteen) with Marks son (Richard Peacock) which they raced every weekend, from around April to the end of October, gaining massive experience in tactical and racing skills. After about 2 years of having the Flying Fifteen, Sam and Richard both decided to sell it, at that point Sam’s father had purchased his own yacht (Contessa 33) with David Craven-Jones, which was cruised and raced practically every weekend, apart from around 4weeks a year. With Sam gaining more and more experience. After two year of having the Contessa they decided to change and purchase a Sigma 35, which was also sailed, most weekends.  After about another two years they decided to sell her and crew for people. Which allowed Sam to gain more experience in a variety of different yachts, but mainly Sam carried on crewing for Mark.
